Jay’s preferred mode of pedestrian transportation, Otto Bock’s Austrian made microprocessor knee is equipped with an onboard gyroscope, computer and 48 hour lithium-ion battery. Jay’s causing quite a commotion on the US Paralympic circuit with his X-T9 from Symbiotechs USA. It seems that this leg provides such an advantage, that the commission will consider Jay as having two legs should he choose to compete in World Cup and Paralympic downhill skiing contests while wearing it. Jay continues to work with Jarem Frye, bone cancer survivor and creator of the leg to optimize the set up while courting major winter sport sponsors looking for boots and skis to fit this superior knee and foot. WANTED: The iLimb Hand from Touch Bionics. His upper amputation classified as a shoulder dis-articulation, Jay is missing his entire arm shoulder joint through pinky finger. This makes him the most difficult patient to fit with an upper limb prosthetic. The iLimb Hand is a tremendous innovation in the field in that it has articulating knuckles, independent fingers and an opposable thumb. When used in conjunction with ‘The Luke Arm,’ named after the character of Luke Skywalker by Deka Research, it returns full joint capacity where there was previously none.http://www.touchbionics.comshapeimage_5_link_0
The Boston Arm: The Boston Arm is a standard issue for upper limb amputees. It’s been around for quite awhile and depending on your level of amputation, it can be quite useful. However the war effort over the past eight years has produced tremendous drives in prosthetic innovation. Myoelectrics combined with true bionic technology is producing some awesome updates to a previously thin upper limb prosthetic category. Look below to see more of what’s on the way, in development at just over the horizon. It’s truly a new day and Jay can’t wait for more articulate upper prosthetic.http://www.liberatingtech.com/shapeimage_6_link_0
